Ophthalmology

Peking University Shenzhen Hospital Ophthalmology was established at the founding of the hospital and gradually developed into a clinical department that integrates medicine, education, and research.

Ophthalmology has a united, friendly, and proactive team of professional ophthalmologists, nurses, and technicians. At present, there are 22 ophthalmologists, including 12 doctors with senior professional titles, 8 with doctoral degrees, and 10 with master's degrees, accounting for 81.2% of the total; There are 21 nurses and technicians, with a total of more than ten graduate students and ophthalmology trainees in training.

The department consists of three parts: an ophthalmology clinic, a femtosecond laser center, and an ophthalmology ward. The ophthalmology clinic has 11 specialized consultation rooms, special examination rooms, fundus fluorescein angiography rooms, fundus laser rooms, 6 optometry rooms with comprehensive optometry instruments, and special treatment rooms. We have various advanced examination and surgical treatment equipment, including Zeiss Visumax femtosecond laser system, Abbott cataract phacoemulsification instrument, ALCON vitrectomy instrument, lacrimal endoscopic surgical equipment, Zeiss optical coherence tomography (OCT), IOL master 700 eye biometric instrument, Humphrey 750 field of view meter, Zeiss surgical microscope, Topcon comprehensive optometry instrument, objective visual quality analyzer, multifocal visual electrophysiological examination equipment, fundus fluorescent vascular choroidal contrast machine, ultrasound biomicroscope (UBM), etc. The ophthalmology ward consists of an ophthalmology general ward and an ophthalmology day ward, with 30 open beds in the general ward.

The department is always committed to bringing brightness to patients with various eye diseases, with four distinctive disciplines: cataract and intraocular refractive surgery specialty, femtosecond laser myopia specialty, fundus disease specialty, and endoscopic orbital minimally invasive surgery specialty. For many years, the surgical volume of each professional group has been ranked first in Shenzhen General Hospital.

Cataract and intraocular refractive surgery are key sub specialties in our department. Cataract combined with serious systemic diseases, cataract after glaucoma surgery, cataract after vitrectomy, and cataract with abnormal suspensory ligaments account for 50% of difficult cataract surgeries. The volume and difficulty of cataract surgeries rank among the top in Shenzhen. The annual surgical volume of intraocular lens implantation (ICL/TICL) for correcting myopia ranks first in the ophthalmology department of a tertiary comprehensive hospital in Guangdong Province.

The femtosecond laser myopia specialist has been established for 20 years and is one of the earliest centers in Shenzhen to carry out laser correction of myopia. It is the first public tertiary comprehensive hospital in Guangdong Province to introduce the Zeiss Visumax full femtosecond laser system. It now carries out small incision femtosecond laser corneal stromal lens resection (SMILE), femtosecond laser flap making excimer laser in situ keratomileusis (FS-LASIK), excimer laser subepithelial keratomileusis (LASEK), and other procedures to correct various types of myopia, astigmatism, and hyperopia. Fundus disease department has the most advanced diagnostic and therapeutic equipment at home and abroad, carries out 25G and 27G minimally invasive vitreoretinal surgery, and various operations and lasers for complicated diabetes retinopathy, retinal detachment, macular epiretinal membrane, macular hole, retinopathy of prematurity, neovascular glaucoma and other diseases. At the same time, integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine treatment is also carried out for ophthalmic diseases such as uveitis and retinal arteriovenous occlusion.

Endoscopic orbital minimally invasive surgery, in addition to conventional eye plastic surgery and lacrimal duct surgery, mainly focuses on ophthalmic endoscopy, leveraging the advantages of comprehensive hospitals to break through traditional orbital exclusion zones and perform complex orbital surgeries such as removal of deep orbital masses and correction of thyroid protrusion under nasal endoscopy. In 2021, the TAO sub center of the National Clinical Medical Research Center was established.

Relying on the advantages of a tertiary Grade A comprehensive hospital and under the protection of a strong internal medicine treatment team, the department treats difficult eye disease patients with multiple diseases. In the future, we will always adhere to the principle of "patient-centered", using exquisite medical skills, good medical ethics, and advanced equipment to strive for safer, more accurate, more comfortable, and higher quality professional treatment services for patients.
